En la campaña para estos comicios, el partido republicano de Donald Trump ha lanzado un vídeo muy xenófobo y racista. En el vídeo, se acusa al partido demócrata de introducir a inmigrantes latinoamericanos que, según los republicanos, son una amenaza para la seguridad de los norteamericanos.

Utilizan el caso de Luis Bracamontes, un hombre mexicano que fue condenado en febrero por el asesinato de dos policías en California. Bracamontes se muestra orgulloso de lo que hizo, y asegura que matará a más. En el vídeo, se utiliza este caso para atacar a los demócratas, con el mensaje «Los demócratas dejaron que entrara a nuestro país. Los demócratas le permitieron quedarse».
Se alternan también imágenes de un hombre acusado de intento de asesinato, y las de una caravana de Hondureños que cruzan la frontera entre Guatemala y México, con intención de infundir miedo entre los votantes. El vídeo culmina con la frase «¡El presidente Donald J. Trump y los republicanos están haciendo que América vuelva a estar segura!».
El partido conservador y su presidente han recibido muchas críticas por la publicación de este vídeo, pero, lejos de retirarlo, Trump lo ha fijado en su cuenta de Twitter.
