Durante el partido del club de fútbol italiano Virtus Vicenza que tuvo lugar el pasado 16 de septiembre, los tradicionales recogepelotas fueron sustituídos por unas adolescentes en shorts extra cortos y camiseta de tirantes que han tenido a la sociedad italiana en polémica las últimas semanas.
La decisión fué del director del club, Renzo Rosso, que además es el dueño de la marca de ropa Diesel. Las jóvenes eran integrantes del equipo de volley Anthea Vincenza, y la ropa que llevaron se la proporcionó el mismo Rosso. Esta muestra de sexualización, cosificación y exhibición de menores ha sido fuertemente criticada tanto en los medios como en las redes. Para defenderse del aluvión de acusaciones, Rosso afirmó que solo tenía como objetivo llamar la atención sobre el deporte femenino.
El equivo de volley también se vió forzado a dar explicaciones. Al parecer, había aceptado la propuesta con la idea de promover una asociación entre disciplinas, y que estaba convencido «de la bondad de la misma», tal como dice el comunicado que intentaba dar cuenta de esta, obviamente, mala decisión.
